Boost Your Wellness this Labor Day Weekend
Are you keeping with the spirit of the weekend and taking time off to relax? Working too hard and not giving yourself time to get restored eventually backfires. Your brain starts to push back. Studies show that when we’re pushing ourselves too hard, productivity actually goes down and we’re at a much higher risk of getting sick. For me, when I get irritable for no specific reason, its usually a sign that I’ve not been practicing good self-care.
Labor day weekend is the perfect time to step back and take some time to rest and reflect. Do something that is restorative to your mind, body and soul. That’s what I plan to do.
Three ways to boost your wellness this weekend
1. At-home spa!
Put on soothing music, treat yourself to a massage, or if you want to work out some of your own kinks, check out this self-massage with tennis balls. You can also jazz up your drinking water by adding cucumber and mint; my favorite is fresh berries and mint from my garden.

Take an Epsom salt bath with your favorite essential oils, put on some soothing music, burn your favorite candles, and enjoy your favorite beverage in the tub. Treat yourself with the same respect you treat others and take this time to relax.
2. Spend time in nature.
Disconnect from all electronics and take a long walk, go biking, or simply go outside and be in nature. I bought a hammock this summer and even slept in it in my own backyard! Shockingly, I had a full night of restful sleep under the peaceful canopy of my silver maple. I also discovered some new bike trails at parks around the city this summer. I love riding near lakes. When I am biking, I’m in my happy place.
3. Spend a day in bed:
Hide your phone and put on some cuddly clothes. Grab that book you’ve been wanting to read “just for fun” or play your favorite movie or games, and crawl into bed. Sleep if you want, veg out, try to find your “nothing box”. Let the world turn on it’s own for a while. Your mind and body probably needs this more than you realize.
I usually don’t know how deeply exhausted I am until after I experience a period of sweet rest. I encourage you to join me this weekend and do something that restores you so you can enjoy life to the fullest!
