Ready For A Spring Reset? 5 Energy Medicine Tips To Balance Your TCM Wood Element

“What your body might be trying to tell you🌿”

As winter slowly gives way to spring, I always notice a quiet shift—both in nature and in the people I work with.

You may feel it too.

A little more energy returning.
An urge to clean, organize, or start fresh.
Or… old aches, stiffness, or even irritability rising to the surface.

This isn’t a coincidence.

Spring is a season of movement, growth, and renewal. In the body, that same energy begins to stir things that may have been “stuck” during the quieter winter months. Over the years in my practice, I’ve come to see spring as an invitation—a gentle nudge to listen more closely to what your body has been trying to tell you.

Your Body Is Always Speaking

Many of us were taught to ignore discomfort.

Push through it.
Don’t make a fuss.
Everyone feels tired.

But your body never stops communicating.

It speaks through:

  • Muscle tightness
  • Headaches
  • Digestive discomfort
  • Fatigue
  • Restlessness
  • Mood changes
  • Sleep disturbances

These are not inconveniences. They are messages.

When we slow down enough to listen, healing often becomes much simpler and more effective.

Symptoms Are Only Part of the Story

One of the biggest misunderstandings about pain is believing the problem always exists exactly where it shows up.

But the body is beautifully interconnected.

A sore neck might reflect stress or emotional pressure.
Low back discomfort can relate to exhaustion or fear.
Headaches often connect with overwhelm and nervous system overload.

Food or chemical sensitivities may also play a role.

When we only chase symptoms, relief is often temporary. When we look beneath the surface, lasting change becomes possible. This is where Specialized Kinesiology truly shines—helping uncover root causes through the body’s own feedback.

The Energy of Spring: Liver & Gallbladder (Wood Element)

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, spring is connected to the Wood element, which governs the Liver and Gallbladder meridians.

These systems support:

  • Smooth flow of energy and blood
  • Flexibility and coordination
  • Emotional balance
  • Decision-making and clarity
  • Vision and forward movement

When this energy flows well, we often feel motivated, creative, and adaptable.

When it becomes blocked, we may notice:

  • Tight shoulders or hips
  • Headaches
  • Irritability or frustration
  • Feeling stuck or overwhelmed
  • Digestive sluggishness

Spring gently encourages us to release what no longer serves us—physically and emotionally.

The Emotional Side of Spring

This is one of my favorite parts of this work.

I recommend you ponder any of the Wood element emotions that resonate with you as you perform the balancing techniques.

Every organ system has emotional connections. For the Wood element, the primary emotion is anger or frustration. When out of balance, it can include negative emotions such as irritability, jealousy, repressed emotions, depression, and fear (as a precursor to anger).

When in balance, some positive emotions can include passion, assertiveness, flexibility, motivation, vision, creativity, and growth, which can result in the ability to set and hold boundaries.

Think of a sprout pushing through the soil—that same energy exists within you.

If you notice irritability this time of year, it may mean you are ready for change. Perhaps you are finally ready to make that decision and move forward.

A simple affirmation you can use:

“I move forward in life with clarity, flexibility, and ease.”

Gentle Meridian Balancing You Can Do at Home

These are simple techniques I love sharing because you can use them anytime.

You don’t need anything complicated to support your body this season. You can flush each meridian back and forth 3 times, ending with a final sweep in the proper direction, ending at LV-14 and GB-44. Another alternative is to hold the endpoints. You will lightly hold the beginning point with the end point on the same side of the body. When complete, do the same on the other side.

1. Liver Meridian

  • Beginning: Inside corner of the big toe (nail bed).
  • End: Chest, just below the nipple between ribs 7–8.

Hold these two points on the same side for 30–90 seconds while breathing slowly, then switch sides.

2. Gallbladder Meridian

  • Beninning: Outer corner of the eye
  • End: Fourth toe

Lightly hold these points together for 20–60 seconds on each side.

3. Neurovascular Holding Points

Holding these reflexes while pondering the emotional aspects associated with the Liver and Gallbladder meridians can have a profound positive effect, leaving you with a quiet sense of calm.

  • Liver points: High on the forehead at the hairline above each eye.
  • Gallbladder point: Top of the head (soft spot area, i.e., anterior fontanel)

Gently hold for 20–60 seconds while breathing slowly.

This simple technique helps calm the nervous system, improve circulation, and support emotional release.

4. Neurolymphatic Reflex Points (front)

These points support detoxification and lymphatic flow.

  • Liver: Between the 5th–6th ribs on the right side (bra-line area)
  • Gallbladder: Between T-3-5 on the sides of the sternum.

Massage with moderate to firm pressure for 20–60 seconds or until tenderness decreases.

Simple Ways to Support Yourself This Spring 🌸

You don’t need to do anything extreme. Small, consistent actions go a long way.

Move Daily: Walking and gentle stretching help release winter stiffness and improve circulation.

Eat Light & Fresh: Helpful foods include leafy greens, sprouts, asparagus, arugula, lemon, and fermented vegetables. (I recently tried an arugula salad with creamy balsamic—and I’m hooked 😊)

Try a Simple Morning Tonic

Spring Lemon Drink

  • 1 cup warm water
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 1 tsp raw honey
  • Pinch fresh ginger

A gentle way to support digestion and liver function.

Herbal Support

You might enjoy:

  • Dandelion root
  • Milk thistle
  • Burdock root
  • Chrysanthemum tea (my favorite with a little honey and lemon 😊)

Emotional Awareness

Gently ask yourself: “What do I really need right now?”

Sometimes awareness alone brings relief.

Learning to Trust Your Body Again

One of the most beautiful shifts I see is when people begin to trust their bodies.

They stop ignoring early signals.
They stop second-guessing every sensation.
They respond with compassion instead of frustration.

This isn’t about becoming overly focused on symptoms.
It’s about becoming gently aware.

And awareness is where real healing begins.

A Season of Fresh Possibilities

Spring reminds us that growth is natural.

You don’t have to force change.

You simply create space for it.

As you move through this season, I invite you to listen—really listen—to what your body is asking for.

And respond with patience, curiosity, and care.
