Modified Meridian Tracing in 60 Seconds: A Simple Way to Restore Calm, Focus, and Energy
This 60-Second Modified Meridian Trace is a simplified version you can do in less time than a traditional meridian trace. In my previous blog, I shared a full Meridian Tracing video that includes the exact beginning and ending points for each meridian, along with the affirmations that go with them. This version focuses on the movements only. Both are valuable—you can choose the one that best fits your time and needs.
This has become one of my favorite go-to tools when I’m short on time. I use it after stressful conversations, during an afternoon energy slump, between client sessions, or anytime my mind feels too busy.
In fact, just two nights ago I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t fall back asleep. I got up for a glass of water and decided to do the modified meridian trace twice. Within minutes, I was back in bed and drifted off to sleep. 🙏
If you’re anything like me, you learn best by doing. Take 90 seconds to watch the video and follow along with the demonstration. Then come back and keep reading if you’d like to learn more.

🌸 What Are Meridians?
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the body contains an intricate network of energetic pathways called meridians. It is along these lines in specific spots that trained acupuncturist place needles during acupuncture treatments. These pathways carry the body’s vital life force, known as Qi (pronounced chee), and have been recognized for thousands of years as an important part of maintaining balance and well-being.
When energy flows freely, we often feel more focused, calm, and energized. During times of stress, many people notice they feel mentally foggy, emotionally overwhelmed, or simply “out of sync.” Meridian Tracing is one gentle way to encourage healthy energetic flow and reconnect with yourself.
🌿 Why I Love This Technique
One of the things I appreciate most about Meridian Tracing is its simplicity. You don’t need special equipment, expensive tools, or even much time—just your own two hands, a quiet moment, and a willingness to slow down.
Before you begin, rub your hands together for about five seconds to increase sensitivity. Then hold your palms about one to three inches away from your body’s surface and slowly move them along the meridian pathway. Some people notice warmth or tingling, while others don’t feel much at first. Both experiences are perfectly normal.
✨ A Simple Modification
If you’ve watched my complete Meridian Tracing video, you’ll notice this version is a little different. Instead of tracing every meridian along its traditional pathway, I’ve simplified the sequence so that nearly all of the meridians are traced on the front of the body. The one exception is the Governing Vessel, which is traced up the back and over the top of the head.
In traditional meridian tracing, the Bladder Meridian is traced down the back, and the Gallbladder Meridian is traced down the sides of the body. The intention behind this simplified approach is that the electro-energy in your hands extends beyond the exact tracing path, allowing the energy to reach all of the meridians that need balancing.
Another one of my favorite ways to use meridian tracing is in my private practice. When a client arrives feeling frazzled after driving through rush-hour traffic or carrying the stress of a busy day, I’ll often “flush” these two extraordinary meridians three or four times, always ending with my hands moving upward. Even without tracing any of the other meridians, I’m frequently amazed by the calming effect this has. I see their breathing soften and their whole body begin to relax before we’ve even started the session.
💜 “Energy Follows Intention”
One of the very first principles I learned in my first Specialized Kinesiology workshop was:
“Energy follows intention.”
That simple statement has stayed with me throughout my entire career.
While it’s helpful to learn the traditional meridian pathways, don’t let perfection keep you from getting started. Your gentle attention, your focused intention, and your willingness to pause are all important parts of the process.
🌼 My Hope for You
If you take just one thing away from this article, I hope it’s this: caring for your energy doesn’t have to be complicated.
Be patient with yourself as you learn. Show up with intention, and let this one-minute practice become part of your life whenever you sense you’re getting out of balance. I’ve found that sometimes the simplest things have made a big difference in my life.
I hope it serves you well.
I’d love to hear from you. After you’ve tried this 60-Second Modified Meridian Trace a few times, let me know what you noticed. Your experience may encourage someone else as well.
