Improving Coordination and Sports Performance with Energy Medicine

When we walk, the muscles in our legs send information to our brain about how our feet are contacting the ground.

Our brain monitors the amount of tension in our muscles, and the length of time it takes for our muscles to contract and relax.

When there’s a disruption in the messaging and cooperation of muscles, the body is forced to compensate, which affects posture, balance, coordination, and the ability to heal. A person will be more clumsy and accident-prone when their Gait reflexes are out of balance. Extra energy is required to do fitness and sometimes even the simple activities of daily living. Many give up on fitness altogether when they realize they’re making little to no progress and the only result is feeling tired afterward.

Many athletes report significant improvements in sports performance after balancing their gait reflexes. But athletes aren’t the only ones who can benefit. 😊

This balancing technique restores communication between muscles on the opposite sides of the body:

  • top/bottom
  • side/side
  • front/back

How to balance Gait Reflex communication pathways for optimal muscle functioning:

1. First, do a pre-check. Bend down as if to touch your toes making a note of how far you’re able to go and how it feels.

2. For the 3 on top of the foot, feel for the spaces between the toes. They can be located anywhere from the beginning of the crack in the toes to 1 inch away from the crack toward the ankle.

3. The points on the sides, are located just beyond the prominent bump on the medial and lateral aspects of the foot toward the ankle.

These are the “Gait” foot reflexes. The particularly tender spots are the ones in need of balancing to enhance brain/body communication.

4. Using your thumb, rub between the toes in any space that is particularly tender for about 15 seconds or until the tenderness diminishes.

5. At the end, perform a post-check. Bend over and repeat the same movement you did before the procedure. You may notice increased ROM, less stiffness, and pain. Next time you’re doing fitness, notice the ease with which you move and the increase in stamina. Celebrate your newfound freedom! 😎

Note: Placing your other hand underneath the foot, contacting Kidney-1 at the ball of the foot while stimulating the reflexes can decrease the intensity of pain felt during the procedure. (Contacting this acupressure point is known to have a calming effect on the body).

Possible reasons your Gait Reflexes may be out of balance:

  • Standing or walking on hard surfaces
  • Reactive muscle patterns
  • Strenuous exercise
  • Poorly fitted shoes
  • Pelvic imbalances
  • Past injuries

I challenge you to take 10 minutes rubbing your gait reflexes today to optimize your strength, flexibility, posture, balance, coordination, positivity, and more! 😁
